IMPORTANT c1880 PETER L. KRIDER STERLING SILVER SQUARE SALVER; RAISED TWISTED VINE TRIM; LAVISH REPOUSSE FOLIATE BORDER; FLORALS WITHIN PANEL DECORATION; SHOWN WITH FINE COLLECTION OF SIMILAR PERIOD STERLING WARES; ENTIRE COLLECTION NOW LISTED We are extremely pleased to offer this rare, square form American sterling silver salver. From the renowned firm of Peter L. Krider, Philadelphia. Shown with similar period sterling wares, now entirely listed. Krider found the firm in 1850. After several partnership changes, including Krider & Biddle, 1860-1870, they were acquired by Simons Bros. in 1903. The salver is beautifully designed and hand crafted in square form. Softly, rounded corners. Raised twisted leaf and vine outer rim. Texture and deep cut engraved. Rich, masterfully repoussed leaf, floral and vine border. Various flowers in elegant bloom. Individual petals and leaves folded and nestled against one another. The finest hand chased detail. Easily comparable to Tiffany, Gorham or Kirk of the same period. Recessed centre. Delicate engraved flowers within double "stitch" panel borders. Garland framed circular medallion, monogrammed "Mary L. Grier from Uncle James" and to base "Dec 25 1882". Supported upon striking split vine cap turned leaf feet....gorgeous. The salver is 7 inches square, 1 1/8 inches tall. Thick, extremely heavy guage sterling construction, weighs 10 1/2 ounces. Exceptional, near pristine condition. Seemingly never used. Warm, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Retains all of its original sharp, hand chased detail. Hallmarked to base as shown, Krider's distinctive lion passant, Gothic "K" and crowne trademark, and retailer, J.E.Caldwell & Co. Enjoy....the entire collection now listed.
