From the renowned firm of Peter L. Krider, Philadelphia. Shown with similar period sterling wares, now entirely listed. Krider found the firm in 1850. After several partnership changes, including Krider & Biddle, 1860-1870, they were acquired by Simons Bros. in 1903. The salver is beautifully designed and hand crafted in square form. Softly, rounded corners. Raised twisted leaf and vine outer rim. Texture and deep cut engraved. Rich, masterfully repoussed leaf, floral and vine border. Various flowers in elegant bloom. Individual petals and leaves folded and nestled against one another. The finest hand chased detail. Easily comparable to Tiffany, Gorham or Kirk of the same period. Recessed centre. Delicate engraved flowers within double "stitch" panel borders. Garland framed circular medallion, monogrammed "Mary L. Grier from Uncle James" and to base "Dec 25 1882".
