Kinkozan For auction is this exquisite Japanese earthenware pottery vase. The vase has a white glaze with fine crackling over a cream or buff color pottery base. It is embellished with "Sparrows In Flight" as shown in the pictures. The sparrows as well as the decoration on the lip, bottom and neck of the vase are slightly raised to the touch and show a primary color of cobalt blue. T are hints of a brown shade around the birds necks. I believe it dates around the 1920's but am by no means an expert. This estate sale item is in excellent condtion without chips, cracks, breaks or repair. I do find a couple of very tiny pin holes which would have occured in the glazing and firing process. It is signed on the base with the Kinkozan seal and measures 15" in Height by approximately 7" in width at the widest point. From what I understand the Kinkozan family had been representative potters of Awataguchi, Kyoto for centuries. The Kinkozan pottery closed in the late 1920's. Being earthenware, which can be a porous material even when glazed, I would expect one to use this wonderfully beautiful piece for display. I do not find any exterior water marks, stains, or discoloration. Along with the vase comes a letter of appraisal which includes many other estate items.
