Presented for auction is a RARE and magnificant piece of ANTIQUE SLAG GLASS...a LARGE and WIDE Bake Shop Style PEDESTAL CAKE STAND / PLATE / SALVER...c.1880's, possibly made by Bastow and Dugan, or Challinor Taylor. It stands 7 5/8" high and the diameter of the plate is 10 1/4". This is one of the most beautiful formulations of purple slag glass that I have ever seen. The colors range from white to lavender to amethyst to purple; all very subtle and softly swirled to resemble marble. Look at how the light transcends through the glass...it's spectacular! This exquisite piece is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, no chips or cracks. T are the usual old glass mold markings like tiny bubbles, straw marks and swirls/ striations; all of which part of the formulation of the glass, and give each and every piece of antique glass its own unique personality. It is made in two-part mold and on the underside of the rim w it meets the plate, t is a very tiny open bubble that can be felt more than seen. An OUTSTANDING PIECE for one's collection of slag glass or antique pedestal cake stand collection...or give as a gift! Shipping weight 8 lbs.
