This crucifix was given to us on consignment for auction by a Carmelite Nun from Peru . We had it appraised in Lima and it is definitely a Spanish Colonial period crucifix that dates from before 1835. We do not know much more about it, as it was donated to the convent in Ayacucho , Peru by a patron who said it had always been in his family. We tested it for silver content and it is made of solid silver, with a weight of 29 grams. The size is very desirable to wear at 4 inches with bail. We suspect the bail was professionally repaired at some point in its long life. The new bail will fit any size chain and it is a very interesting piece to look at. Good luck bidding!
