RRP. $US1,750.00 DESCRIPTION: Even though I am now officially retired from the full time antiques business, I still get offered good antique pieces for sale. On a recent visit to Hong Kong I bought this rare Tang Dynasty camel painted in brown, white, orange & maroon hues, standing four square on a rectangular plinth, its mouth wide open as if braying. Saddle bags rest between its humps, decorated on either side with a molded spirit guardian head. S IZE: 370mm Tall ( 14.8 inches) CONDITION: Some expected degradation, abrasions, minor losses and probable restoration, as a consequence of extended burial and subsequent cleaning. DATING: Tang dynasty (618 to 906AD) COMMENT: These pieces are becoming increasingly harder to source. Compare this camel with a slightly smaller one, offered by Christies, and illustrated in "Miller's Chinese and Japanese Antiques Buyer's Guide" with an estimate of $US8,000 to $US9,600.
