Up for auction is this extremely rare 1848 edition (first was 1847 I believe) of Hiram Bingham's History of his time on the Sandwich Isles (i.e. Hawaii). This is fascinating look at Hawaiian history and includes a very early foldout map of the islands (see pictures). 616 pages.From my great grandparent's estate and their extensive collection of rare books. We are pricing this item well below what many other collectors/dealers ($500 or more) are listing it at simply because we need to free the space!Hopefully this item will find a home with a collector who will cherish it as my great grandparent's did.This is a very unique a awesome gift for this hisrtorian and/or Hawaii lover in your life .About Hiram Bingham:Bingham was descended from Deacon Thomas Bingham , who immigrated to the American colonies in 1650 and settled in Connecticut . He was born October 30, 1789 in Bennington, Vermont , one of thirteen children of his mother Lydia and father Calvin Bingham. [1] He attended Middlebury College and the Andover Theological Seminary . [2]After breaking his first engagement, Bingham found a new bride, Sybil Mosley. He needed to be married to be accepted as a missionary.
