This auction is for a set of three antique reverse portrait paintings on glass. They are from a fine old estate and were packed away in an old trunk. The surviving family member did not know anything about them. To me they look Italian or French. Please use your own judgment.I am 99% sure the trio are circa 1870-1910.The exposed areas of the paintings measure approx. 4 3/4" by 7". The gilt wood and gesso frames measure 6 3/4" by 9". The finish isn't the original. The frames have been refinished some time ago.The painting of the young lady with the pink/white scarf? has very minor flaking/loss of the paint. This is shown in the close-up image. The other two paintings have very little, if any, gilt/finish loss. The frames are gilt wood and gesso and all three have minor shallow spits along the sides and one or two tiny nicks or fritters each. The frame holding the portrait of the lady with the red bows has two small breaks on the right front. A small section is slightly loose so it will need a little glue.Otherwise the frames are in very good condition. The wooden backs on the paintings were held in place by four tiny nails. read more
