Rhodesia 1910 1/- RSC-F3 Pos. 26 – Button Flaw & Many Late State No Gash Scratches LOT P681-21: 1/- RSC-F3 Black & Pale Dull Turquoise-Blue, Perforated 14 x 14, No Gash 6, Position 26, Head Plate Flaw: “King’s Button Flaw & Vertical Scratch from South Margin to North Margin running through Canal East of the West Panel and the West Value Circle just West of the “1”; additionally this stamp has many other late state No Gash Scratches and Flaws all clearly visible. This stamp also shows a slight “slur” print of the heads which resulted from a re-entry that was slightly misaligned resulting in the heads appearing darker and coarser then a normal F3 , Mint, Hinged, Original Gum. An incredible example of this very rare stamp clearly showing major and minor No Gash Flaws, and an example of a late state “slur” print – this stamp is literally covered with late state flaws. I have collected Rhodesian Double Heads for over 25 years now. I am one of the two authors of “Rhodesia: The Bi-Coloured Double Heads 1910-1914”, soon to be in its 11 th Edition. I will be listing a couple of hundred high quality stamps, blocks, covers, and reference collection items over the next few months. All the stamps being offered are from my collection, and have been hand-picked over the past 20+ years for quality and key positions. These are my copies, not duplicates, and represent the finest quality Double Heads to come to market in the past two decades. Many of them have come from the finest collections to come to market in the past two decades, as you will see from the various provenances throughout the collection. If Double Heads are your thing, keep an eye on me. **Payment by PayPal or US Dollar Check. 30-Day return policy if you are not satisfied.** The Story: In late 1910 Arthur, the Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (Queen Victoria 's third Son) traveled to South Africa to open the First Union Parliament. After opening Parliament, Arthur traveled north to Rhodesia on a tour of the colony. On November 11, 1910 a set of 18 stamps was issued by Rhodesia to commemorate the Duke's visit. These 18 stamps were produced by Waterlow & Sons, in London . The design of all 18 values show the portraits of the new King and Queen, George V and Mary. After the visit of the Duke, the Double Heads continued to be used for both Postage and Fiscal purposes as late as 1920. In an attempt to save money the plates used to print the bi-colored values from the 2d. to the Pound, were not discarded when they began to show wear. Instead the plates were overhauled. The original plate used to print the heads, also known as the 5555 Plate, was overhauled 2 times during its life (between the MG1 & MG2 States and between the SG3 & HK1 States). Two electroplates were made from the 5555 Plate. The creation of these two plates coincide with the overhauls of the 5555 Plate: the 1 st Electroplate (also known as the Thick Ear Head Plate) was made during the MG1-2 overhaul; and the 2 nd Electroplate (also known as the No Gash Head Plate) was made during the SG3-HK1 overhaul.
