Welcome to Antiques & Moore!This listing is for a lovely Rookwood Art Pottery wall pocket, c. 1916.Measures 7" long, 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/4" deep.This nice wall pocket has a dark slate-blue color with a molded design around the top of the body. The base is marked with the incised Rookwood flame mark, "XVI/200". The wall pocket has a nice cone shape and matte finish. Although this vase was done during the "production" period at Rookwood, the overall appeal is very pleasing!Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs.The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 and won numerous prestigious awards with their early pottery. However, over the years she became less involved with the company and in 1890 the Rookwood Pottery Company was reorganized with William Taylor becomming President. Rookwood is considered the premier name in American Art Pottery and even the more common pieces of the production ware period are collected for their elegant beauty. The Depression was difficult for the Rookwood factory although they continued to operate until 1967 when the factory was finally forced to close.We welcome International buyers, however, please note that we as sellers have no control over random Customs inspections.
