Royal Crown Derby - 1128 "Old Imari" 2 - Rare Egg Cups Vintage 1976 There is no finer bone china than that produced by the artisans of Derby, England. Long recognized as the premier english purveyor of porcelains and tableware, King George III was the first to grant the factory the right to incorporate the crown into the backstamp, in 1775. Kings, Presidents and Potentates have long enjoyed many of the services produced by Royal Crown Derby. These charming egg cups were produced for only a short time in the twentieth century, and have not been in the catalogue for more than 30 years. They will make a bright beginning to any breakfast tray, whether the accompanying plates be of the same or a different pattern, and they display wonderfully. They were purchased at Harrods in London in 1980, used only occasionally, and were only hand - never machine - washed. The bowls are not precise in dimensions - as they were hand-spun, the size can vary by up to three or four milimeters in height or diameter. They accommodate extra large eggs with no problem, and most jumbos. There are no cracks, chips, mites or other noticeable defects. The bottom bears the company stamp, of course.
