Antique Maps & Charts Visit my Ebay Store for a huge selection of Antique Views Ruhrort Duisburg Ruhrort was founded in 1371 as a customs site and was granted town status in 1551. Due to its convenient position on the junction of Rhine and the Ruhr a harbour had been created by 1665, mainly for trading coal from the Ruhr Valley mines. The harbour was in steady competition with the harbour of Duisburg which was located only 3 kilometers to the south. The engraving by Hagenberg shows the conquest by the Spaniards in 1587. It would frame up easily into an excellent decorative and valuable collectors piece. This map is sold unframed, unmounted and unrestored. Some items may have the odd small mark or tear in the margins but the engraved surfaces are in good condition. Most maps have a fold or joint in the centre, this is easily hidden when framed.
