Up for auction is what appears to be an original signed J. S. Pughe drawing. The subject matter of this piece is a hunter holding a shot gun while smoking a cigarette as a beagle dog runs at his feet and a rabbit hangs out of the hunter's back pocket. The piece has been created on paper and measures 15" x 21.25". It has a pencil signature which reads: Yours truly J S Pughe. I am not an expert on comic art but I would guess that it was created with black pen and pencil and the color was added with watercolor. Overall condition is good with the following exceptions: there is a hole in the piece to the right of the rabbit which measures just under an inch in diameter / there is a one and half inch tear at the top of the paper left hand side where the print was hinged to the board it is mounted on / some water damage to the upper top right and lower right corners. Overall a great turn of the century art piece. John S. Pughe was a well-known American Cartoonist who was born in 1870 and died at Lakehurst NJ in 1909. This artist did work for Puck and Judge Magazines at the turn of the century and he also used the name J. S. Pugh or John Pugh.
