Even today, many of Saint-Louis' artisans hold the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France a distinction awarded to only the greatest of craftspersons in France.The thistle was the original inspiration behind this service when it was created for the Nancy Exhibition in 1908 at the height of the Art Nouveau movement. Later, 'Entente cordiale oblige', Chardon ('Thistle') was anglicized, becoming Thistle, and sparkled on the greatest of tables.
