Original Scrimshaw by Salman Rashidi on a broken fossil Eskimo spear tip made from walrus ivory. This artifact was naturally broken from use by native Alaskans thousands of years ago.It is missing about three inches on the sharp end. Artifact was used as a weapon.Wooden stand- cocoboloSize without stand- 8"6/8 L 1"1/8 H 0"5/8 D"Leaving New Bedford Harbor"A depiction of whaling bark Wanderer catching a breeze bound for her whaling cruise on August 25th, 1924. She was wrecked the following day on Cuttyhunk Island during a severe northeasterly gale that swept the Atlantic coast.Bark Wanderer was built at Mattapoisett, Mass. in 1878. She is the last square rigged whale ship to sail from New Bedford.Also noted in the scene a two masted fishing schooner, of the "Pinky" type; smaller version of the average fishing schooners. Pinky's design made them less vulnerable in bad weather to sink. Pinkies were cheaper to built because of their sharp stern also seen are couple of sloops in the scene, w they were commonly used to fish or pilot the bigger vessels coming from their whaling voyage.
