An exquisite detailed miniature portrait of 'Sarah Jane' by Joyce Kastner (1922-2011), who painted under her maiden name of Lillingston. This is believed to be a watercolour commission and was probably painted around 1970 when she lived in Eastbourne. On the back of the framed painting is a label which reads "'Sarah Jane' by Joyce Lillingston, 37 St Annes Road, Eastbourne". A life-long artist, Joyce attended the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, where she studied for four years, specialising in portraiture. She was an associate member of the Royal Miniature Society and a founding member of the Hilliard Society, exhibiting annually with these as well as the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Academy. The oval painting in its frame measures 75mm x 65mm.
