This 12"x8" Limited Edition print features the famous Special Air Service Commander Paddy Mayne at the wheel of a WW2 machine-gun armed American Jeep behind the lines during the D-Day Normany campaign in June 1944. He is accompanied by the famous cartoon artist Ian Fenwick who commanded A Squadron 1 SAS during that campaign. Ian Fenwick was killed in action charging a German machine gun position with his MG armed Jeep. This print is autographed by Sgt. Len Owens, MM, who, in 1945, was Lt. Col. Mayne's signaller when the Colonel also personally attacked a German machine gun position under intense fire - Paddy Mayne was recommended for a Victoria Cross for his bravery. Len started his Army career as a signaller in Combined Ops, then Phantom Regiment (behind the lines signallers) after which he volunteered for F Squadron, SAS parachuting into France for the Normandy campaign. Finally serving in 2SAS with Paddy Mayne in 1945. Len has signed this print in aid of the Allied Special Forces Memorial Grove in memory of his SAS colleagues murdered by the Germans in the French village of Moussey.
