This hard to find and highly desirable fine piece of California artpottery is Sascha Brastoff and mid-century modern at its best! Fish is three dimensional in shape with vivid turquoise blue and gold mosaic on a brown base. This fish is a large statement piece measuring 17" by approximately 8" at widest. It is in wonderful vintage condition with only light age crazingon back side. Signed “Sascha B” on front and stamped with makers "Rooster" mark on back. Sascha Brastoff (1918-1993) was a successful Los Angeles ceramic designer who had a flair for promotion and mixed freely with Hollywood stars and celebrities. His bold, colorful and flamboyant creations fitted perfectly into the postwar era of adventurous ceramic design. Sacha began creating ceramics in New York in the early 1940’s. After a stint in the Air Force followed by working as a costume designer with Fox Studios in Hollywood, he set up a ceramics plant in West Los Angeles called Sascha Brastoff Products Inc. with the backing of Winthorpe B. Rockefeller. In the mid 1960’s other art pottery makers such as Stangl and Royal Haeger were licensed to use Sascha’s name trademark. These items usually read more
