CONRAIL began to turn a profit in the 1980 s and was turned over to private investors in 1987 . The two remaining Class I railroads in the East, CSX Transportation ( CSX ) and the Norfolk Southern Railway ( NS ), agreed in 1997 to split the system approximately equally, returning rail freight competition to the Northeast by essentially undoing the 1968 merger of the Pennsylvania RR ( PRR ) and New York Central RR that created Penn Central . CSX and NS took control in 1998 , and in 1999 , began operating their portions of CONRAIL . Contracts are signed between shippers and CSX or NS , but CONRAIL retains support facilities in certain areas, including Maintenance-of-Way and training. Hi Z Folks,Hello! It's Nov. FT released singles 2-pks. of both models in the past and this current dual 2-pk. has all new unique Road Numbers. A pair of Covered ACF 51' Cylindrical Hoppers , one marked for Penn Central , and the other for ERIE-LACKAWANNA . The models were manufactured with great details by Bowser Mfg. , painted to a slight sheen and equipped with the new Bowser Roller Bearing trucks featuring super-gliding blackened metal wheels, and knuckle couplers . The bodies are PC Green and ERIE-LACKAWANNA Red with their familiar white logos. The small data appears in white, immaculate, tiny and clean. These Full Throttle Penn Central and ERIE-LACKAWANNA ACF Cylindrical Hopper Cars wear two new and unique reporting numbers, never before available.Set #1: PENN CENTRAL PC 884337 and ERIE-LACKAWANNA EL 20010As you can see, the crystal clear display box holds two cars, and is stackable!
