For your consideration is a very nice working vintage ship's bell clock made in Germany by Schatz. The clock keeps good time and sounds the 8 bells in the proper sequence. This one has a solid brass case measuring 7 inches across the back and 6 inches across the door which has thick beveled glass. The dial is 5 inches across. The clock is mounted on a mahogany plaque. In the upper portion of the plaque is a brass tag that says "USS VERMILION". I did a little research on this ship and discovered she was an attack cargo ship and was delivered to the Navy on December 23rd, 1944. The Vermilion served faithfully in the Atlantic fleet. In 1977, she was struck from the records and later was sunk off the coast of North Carolina to help form a barrier reef. I can only surmise from the plaque that the clock has some connection with this ship. The clock is in excellent working condition. As with most of these older Schatz clocks, the case is split in several places. You can see this in the pictures, but doesn't really distract that much. Also, the knob is missing on the door. None of this distracts from the fucntionality of the clock. Please look at the pictures and email if any questions. No reserve auction and low starting price. Thanks for looking!
