Lovely ceramic/composition Scheherazade bust standing 15.75" tall. Circa 1900-1910. This bust is as rare and gorgeous as the original Scheherazade, who so entranced the sultan with her stories that she escaped certain death! From a local Southern plantation, this piece had been in the same family since initial purchase and is only now available to market. Completely original paint. While there are chips and loss of paint as indicated in photos, these accurately reflect that the bust has not been restored or tampered with in any way. Chips are as follows: (1) outside corner of epaulette on shoulder, approx. 1/4 inch wide and long (2) back bottom corner of base, approx. 1/2 inch wide and long. ALL other areas, including over eye, on chin, and on robe, are only surface loss of paint and NO loss of ceramics/composition. Very lightly cleaned, with any restoration being the choice of a new owner. "Scheherazade" inscribed on base and marked on side "228." Unable to identify maker at this time.
