Another great Vietnam War era button from The UC Berkeley Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), supporting "Black Power Day".The condition is excellent, it has typical oxidization on the back. The front is "like new". The diameter measures 1 1/2" inches. The edge reads "Printed by Members of P.&P.W. I.U. 450" followed by an I.W.W. crest and a #609 Union Mark The Black Panther Party was formed by Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton on October 15, 1966. This button is from an event held two weeks later. SDS Black Power Day, Saturday Oct. 29th 1966, Stokely Carmichael and others spoke to about 10,000 people at the Greek Theater on the campus of University of California at Berkeley. His speech was part of a all day "Black Power and Change" conference organized by Students for a Democratic Society.This button represents the links between Carmichael, Chairman for (SNCC) the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, The Lowndes County Freedom Organization in Alabama also know as the "Black Panther Party", the"Black Panther Party for Self Defense" from Oakland, California, and the SDS.
