An original design by Keisuke Serizawa (1895-1984), designer, painter and illustrator, who was designated a Japanese Living National Treasure in 1956. Born in the city of Shizuoka . He was honored for being the pioneer of katazome, or hand-stenciled dyeing, using cut out paper patterns and applying color to the stencils in a process that combined traditional Japanese dying techniques with Okinawan bingata. He was also a leader of the Japanese folk art movement or "mingel," and though many of his themes are not considered traditional, t is still an element in them that is essentially Japanese. His works appear in many forms, kimon, decorative screens, wall hangings, fans, paintings, book covers, calendars and original prints and have been exhibited worldwide.
