I have up for auction today a SIGNED Carved Wood NETSUKE Designed as Mommy and Baby Frogs *FABULOUS BARGAIN* This is a lovely and very interesting Netsuke as you can see by the photos, which can be seen beneath my written description by scrolling down the page . Netsuke are miniature sculptures that were invented in 17th-century Japan to serve a practical function (the two Japanese characters ne+tsuke mean "root" and "to attach"). Traditional Japanese garments—robes called kosode and kimono—had no pockets; however, men who wore them needed a place to store their personal belongings, such as pipes, tobacco, money, seals, or medicines. This fabulous carved Netsuke portrays a mommy frog and sitting on her back is her baby frog!! On the base of this piece it has been signed by the artist. This piece measures 4.4cm by 4.8cm and weighs 18.3 grams. What a wonderful Netsuke to add to your personal collection and is well worth read more
