A very good Sumida Gawa pottery vase, the sides featuring appliquÃf© decoration of four boys clambering around some sort of wooden structure over a body of water. The boys's faces are finely detailed. The top third of the vase has the classic dripped flambÃf© glaze with nice coloring. The orange glaze on the bisque portion is vibrantly colored and in excellent condition. The base has the incised signature of master potter Inoue Ryosai. Origin: Japan, ca. 1890. Condition: excellent, no chips or cracks. Size: 9-1/4" tall.
