Very few pieces in our offerings can earn the lable "the best" - but this one absolutely does! this exquisitely preserved ash tree is one of the best McDermitt hardwoods in an easy to collect and display size that we've seen in years! You can just see how finely preserved it is in the photo - each ring and even some of the pores visible to the naked eye! It's a warm, gorgeously colored piece with a perfect shape and... ah! It's amazing! This is what makes petrified wood collecting so enjoyable for me - the chance to see one better than I've ever seen before! Only a small number of slabs came from this perfect log folks - don't miss getting one while I have them! This is a really beautiful specimen of the petrified wood found in a desolate sagebrush desert that spans over 100 square miles on the Oregon/Nevada border. It's a slice from a perfectly preserved hardwood, with absolutley gorgeous gem quality agate in warm, natural wood tones preserving this ancient fossil. The exterior is still ash white - colored by the ancient volcanic blast that buried this prehistoric forest. The inside, however, is a richly colored array of gem quality agate that preserved the wood grain beautifully in every detail!
