This is a unique piece of Native American memorabilia O purchased at a pow-wow in New Jersey about 12 years ago. This is a hanging tapestry made of rough tanned deer hide. It is airbrushed with the most famous portrait of Sitting Bull, taken in 1885, a number of years after Little Big Horn. I did not obtain any artist's information at the time that I acquired this. It was indicated by the seller that it may have come from an artist in the NJ Lenape tribe, but that fact cannot be authenticated. The tapestry is in "as shown" condition, and has been that way since I've owned it. It hung in my living room away from direct sunlight for 10 years before I took it down and decided to part with it. The length is 48" on either side. The top of the tapestry has a width of 42" - so if you decide to hang it(which is probably the easiest safest way to display it), you'll need a rod at least that long. As stated, there are 2 small holes just outside the bottom left of the portrait, but as you can see the airbrushing was expertly executed. The narrowest width of the tapestry lines up with Sitting Bulls chest and is 26". The portrait does hang quite beautifully and neatly when hung from a rod. If you are concerned with further preservation of this piece you may want to consult a leather expert, as I haven't done anything to the piece other than read more
