Six 2 1/4" 1975 vintage pinback buttons with characteristic illustrations by Edward Gorey advertising the New York City Ballet. Added bonus pinback button for Gorey Stories, 1983 book.Edward St. John Gorey (1925 - 2000) was an American writer and artist known for his more than 100 illustrated books. His well-admired pen-and-ink drawings often depict vaguely unsettling scenes in Victorian and Edwardian settings. A play titled "Gorey: The Secret Lives of Edward Gorey" is scheduled to premier in New York this spring.He was noted for his fondness for ballet, and reportedly attended all performances of the New York City Ballet.These six pinback buttons made by NG Slater Corp NYC were a testament to his love of ballet and the company. They were sold in the NYC Ballet gift shop during the late 1970s.The Gorey Stories pinback button advertised a 1983 book.Condition: all buttons are original to the period and have never been worn. No scratching or fading on surfaces.
