A very rare Civil War Florida soldier's camp newspaper, "The New Era", publ Key West, Florida, May 17, 1862 by Richard B Locke & GW Burtsell, both 90th New York Volunteers. This is issue Number 7, w 4 pp incl Camp news, 90th NY Regimental Festival celebrations planned, Brigade Health, shortage of mosquito netting, capture of a 6 foot rattlesnake in Camp, editor seeks new, larger printing press, War news incl Army of the Potomac Advance to Williamsburg, Virginia, Berdan's Rifles, Coconut trees etc. 4pp, 9 x 12". VG. Comes w service info for the newspaper publishers- Lt Locke & Private Burtsell, the latter died at Key West, 2 months from publication, of Yellow Fever.
