Dietzgen 3 1/2 X 8TPI transit base; will also serve as surveyor's tripod thread protector Solid brass Dietzgen transit base with baked on enamel finish. 3 1/2" diameter by 8 threads per inch (TPI). 3 1/2 X 8TPI is a standard size for surveyor tripods. Not all surveyor tripods are this size, but most American made surveyor tripods are this size. Measure your tripod to make sure this Dietzgen transit base will fit your tripod. This transit base will protect your tripod top threads. It could also be modified to make it into a photographic adaptor for your surveyor tripod. Ask and thou shalt receive photos of transit bases as photographic adapters. Surveyor tripods are some of the most stable tripods made. Surveyor tripods were designed to hold heavy brass and glass transits with high power scopes. You need stability and rigidity for that purpose. Oftentimes suveyor tripods have fixed length legs with no joints other than at the top.....which makes for great stability. I use surveyor tripods for long lens nature photography. A stable tripod is the most important component after the camera/lens in long lens photography. No tripod included. See my other ads for similar items. Made in USA.
