Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) Conical Rice Bowl With Partridge-Feather Mottles The decorative shapes and glazes of pottery reached the height of elegance and technical perfection during the Song Dynasty of ancient China. Supreme among the decorative arts of the Song period were ceramics, which many connoisseurs consider the highest artistic achievement of the Chinese potters of old, and are certainly the most copied throughout history, even to this day. This Northern Song black ware, Cizhou type dark brown glaze with Partridge-Feather mottles is of True Museum Quality. We are offering a rare opportunity to own a true piece of Song Dynasty ceramic, in stunning, perfect-for-its-age condition. This bowl is 7" in diameter and 2-1/2" high. Its simple elegance and design, along with the highest state of glazing, is truly amazing. The bowl's inside has a metallic luster caused by the iron-oxide overglaze, and should be considered early Northern Song. This piece came to us from the Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Mullen collection. Mr. & Mrs. Mullen are third-generation collectors of exquisite art objects. Note: This collection should not be taken lightly; it is substantial, and comes from an old-money estate.
