Antique vintage songye axe from the Congo. The wood has a nice patina from a lot of handling. The steel blade has some etching on it. There is copper sheeting wrapped on the handle. The handle has some decoration also. The axe is approximately 14" long. I think it dates from 1890-1940. It was made by hand by the Songye tribe or one of their neighbors and used a fair amount because the patina is fine. I think it was used for dancing or ceremonies since it is not sharp. NR Good luck.
