Spectacular Aepyornis Maximus Egg ! We are very proud to present this amazing Egg of an Aepyornis Maximus, or Elephant Bird ! A n enormous egg reconstituted from large and small, all authentic, Aepyornis eggshell fragments that are found in the southern sands of Madagascar. The pieces are sorted, then bonded together, back to the original shape ; the finished item is quite solid. Of course, it is extremely difficult for the local finders to gather the complete set of all the original pieces. The fragments' varying colors are due to the changes in the ground environment where they were found. This particular specimen was made from mostly 80% / 90% of one egg. This egg was NOT polished ! Here, the largest fragment measures 13 x 10 centimeters ( or 5 1/8 x 4 inches wide ) ! In comparison, an Aepyornis egg holds a volume 8 to 12 times greater than that of an ostrich ; and represents the equivalent of 170 hen's eggs ! VERY LARGE FRAGMENTS !!! PERFECT SHAPE !!! Dating : On site, these eggshells are dated to be around 20 000 years old, but they could be a bit younger or possibly older... still, definitly 'subfossils'. Origin : Madagascar Size ( egg only ) : 12 inches X 9 inches or 30 cm X 22.5 cm Weight ( egg only ) : 1750 g Condition : Intact ! Incredible Egg of an Aepyornis Maximus, or "Great Elephant Bird".
