It is embossed S.P.M.CO. O. (in large bold letters in circle slug plate) EMPIRE X on front at base.....4 large vertical lines around neck.....Early semi-automatic machine made, with circle blow off scar (which some mistake for a pontil scar).....pint size.....7"tall.....fabulous royal purple color! ...Excellent Condition with no chips or damage. A dug bottle with some light haze. This is from the SPRINGFIELD, OHIO PURE MILK CO. and dates from the early 1900's. I guarantee it is from Springfield,O, because we have dug several of these t in Springfield over the years, and sometimes they even have Springfield, Ohio spelled out on them. The beautiful amethyst or purple color of this glass is a result of the presence of manganese in the glass, which was a decolorizer to turn the glass clear. Most of the manganese used in glass factories came from Germany, so when WW1 broke out in 1914, it became much harder to obtain manganese. Other oxide decolorizers read more
