You are bidding on an old antique woodworking tool. This vintage plane is a Stanley No 4 Prelateral Solid Nut. It is a Type 2 dated 1869 - 1872. The following items identify it as a Type 2. It has the A Trademark on the iron and cap iron. L Baileys Patent Dec 24 1867. It has the higher sides that are more to the front than other models. T are no no numbers cast into the bed. The top corners of the frog are rounded The frog is shaped like a letter I, see picture T is a fillet cast on each side of high cross rib in front of throat. The knob has the H knob with Bailey's Patent on it. The lever cap has the rectangular spring and it has a flat back. The plane is in fair shape. The tote is broken. The front knob has a small check in it at the base. The iron and iron cap have poor stamps. Someone has scratched the name Bailey in the iron. T is a heavy layer of patina to the plane. The lever cap has some small chips on the edge. T is no signifigant rust thought t are a few spots with very light surface rust. This plane has all the nicks and dings of a tool that is 135 years old. Obtain another tote or fix this one and you have a good plane for a Type 2. It needs a little TLC. It can be used for parts.
