THE STORY-LIFE OF LINCOLN Wayne Whipple We have a large lot of old books that my father-in-law collected through the years. He collected these books from a variety of places-library sales, book stores, auctions, and estate sales, to name a few. Now it's time to go through these books and find new homes so that others can enjoy them. We are not experts in old books but will try to describe them to the best of our ability.This book is about Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. This is a biography "composed of five hundred true stories, told by Abraham Lincoln and his friends". This book is different from some biographies in that it is not one person's take on Lincoln's life, it is a combination of stories told by people who actually knew this great man. This was a very interesting book to read, the shorter stories are easier to follow and you come to learn more about Lincoln as a man and not just as a politician; I found it quite fascinating. This book was published in 1908 as a "Memorial Edition - issued to Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Lincoln's birth." The book contains 150 engravings taken from photographs, paintings, drawings and manuscripts. Sixteen of these are "special engravings on tinted paper". There are six pages of Lincoln quotes, a great index, and a special acknowledgment section in the back
