RARE AND SUPERB ANCIENT ROMAN BRONZE DOLPHIN HANDLE This is a rare and beautiful Ancient Roman Bronze Zoomorphic Dolphin Handle in very fine condition. Roman Empire, c. 1st-2nd Century A.D. An elaborate Roman zoomorphic bronze handle in the form of two facing dolphins with curved bodies, dorsal fins and elegantly swung fin tails of almost floral shape, meeting at a central knob. In Roman mythology the dolphin was attributed to the Roman god of the sea Neptune and was a symbol of prosperity and good fortune. Measures 9.8 cm in length and 3.4 cm in height. Weight 43.3 gm. Beautiful, rare and in very fine condition. A rare and attractive piece with excellent detail and beautiful glossy dark green patina with areas of reddish and brown! Provenance: Ex.
