This is truely a stunning example of an antique Majolica "Basket-Weave" Pierced Rim Comport or Compote, ... made by "Wayte & Ridge .. Longton .. Staffordshire" ... and dating from circa. 1880. The comport is beautifully decorated with a relief moulded pattern of basket weave, ... surrounding a central design, ... pierced rim, ... then finished in a rich glaze typical of majolica wares. The base foot is also beautifully decorated .. as shown in the photos. The comport is in very good condition. There are no cracks or chips. There are a couple of very small repaired flea-bites to the glaze on the rim & foot edge, ... these are minimal .. as shown in the photos. Top diameter : 9.2 ins. / 23.6 cms. Height : 2.5 ins. / 6.4 cms.
