Beautiful Carving of Garuda, Bali, unknown wood, 4" x 3-1/2". Garuda is the Vehicle of Vishnu, who is the Hindu protector and preserver God (Wisnu in Bali). The mythical Garuda or Eagle King is powerful and possesses supernatural forces himself. The Garuda is also aprotector and rescuer of people from difficulties. He helps dissolve negative energies, protects the home and imbues his great power to those he protects. He is very large and can blot out the sun. Only Vishnu can tame Garuda, and only Garuda can subdue Nagas (snakes). A fine example of Balinese carving, probably from Mas, the primary wood-carvers’ village near Ubud. Sold to Benefit a Non-Profit Ashram.
