Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was an American Founding Father, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and the third President of the United States (1801-1809). This is an extremely rare, partially printed Bank of the United States check, 5-3/4” x 2-1/4”, filled out and signed: “Th: Jefferson” AS PRESIDENT. Payable to Benjamin Riceland in the amount of $20.70, July 7, 1801. Archivally matted with a color likeness and framed to an overall size of 17” x 13”. Pristine condition. Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from autograph expert George Hollingsworth, retired vice president of Alexander Autographs. Also accompanied by photocopies of an Autograph Letter Signed from Mr. Riceland to President Jefferson dated July 8, 1801, in which Mr. Riceland sends 6 copies of “The Theory of Fevers” and 6 copies of “The Theory of Generations.” This communication further attests to a business relationship between the two gentlemen. Original document is housed at the William L. Clements Library of the University of Michigan, Thomas Jefferson Collection.
