Offering a 4-1/4" wide, pre-1920, souvenir, advertising, compliments tip tray. Reads on the front: DON MORRIS / HE'S A GOOD FELLOW TO KNOW and reads on the back (some areas are very faint): DON MORRIS / SAYS / "I MAKE GOOD" / WITH MEN / I SELL / CLOTHES / HAT AND / FURNISHINGS / BACON BLOCK / 11TH & 12TH / 1062 WASHINGTON STREET / OAKLAND. The tray is not marked CALIFORNIA but from research I was able to determine from the address on Washington street and the mention of the BACON BLOCK confirmed its California location. In fact, in December of 1902 the Bacon Block burned down with many businesses being gutted. Don Morris, clothier was not mentioned in the article which was very complete in it's description of the fire. Therefore the tip tray probably pre-dates 1902. Has some minor paint loss and wear on front and rim (see photo). Would make a great addition to any DON MORRIS, CLOTHIER, BACON BLOCK, TIP TRAY, OAKLAND, SAN FRANCISCO or CALIFORNIA collection or any local historical museum.
