This is a Beautiful Vintage Tom Taber / John Fairfield Northern Shoveler Duck Decoy from the Tom Taber 1985-86 Woodendare Signiture Series Collection. Both Tom Taber's and John Fairfield's signitures are Stamped into the bottom, along with the Woodendare Series Medallion set in as well. Tom's use of distressed wood with worm holes and imperfections helped to create variences in each and every decoy made. With his signiture use of various stains to bring out the warmth and beauty of the natural wood grains, each decoy takes on its own unique appearance and character. Tom made many decoys for Ducks Unlimited, and with his passing these decoys are increasing in value as they become more collectible and hard to find. The Tabor Signiture Series decoys usually had more detailed carving and definition. This decoy is is in excellent condition having some signs of wear including a few nicks, dents, and rub marks as would be expected for a 25 year old decoy. There is a repair to one of the tail feathers that is not noticible until close inspection that is hard to pick put. I have taken a picture of the tail area up close. There is also an imperfection in the wood at the top of the beak that appears to be original to the decoy and not damaged as seen in the close-up of the face.
