Treasury of American Prints 1939 Etchings Lithographs Description 100 Prints by Top 1939 American Artists First Edition By Thomas Craven Published by Simon and Schuster Publication Date 1939 Hardcover with Slipcase 218 pages 100 Illustrations by American Artists 10-1/4 x 13 inches A Treasury of American Prints is a collection of very fine reproductions of 100 etchings and lithographs by America’s foremost living artists in 1939. The editors spent three years looking through 2500 works to come up with the 100 prints used in the portfolio. It was printed by Edward Stern & Co., Inc., a major printer of high quality books. Artists such as Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood, John Steuart Curry, Wanda Gag, Emil Ganso, Edward Hopper and Thomas Nason who are well collected today are included as well as many other artists who are less known today. This is a great resource for print collectors plus those interested in the development of printmaking during the first half of the 20th century. We keep a copy in our studio as a reference. One very helpful feature of the book is that all of the reproductions were made from signed originals. The signatures are so good that they are helpful in authenticating signatures on other works of art. Many people sell the individual prints from this collection for as much as $49.95 each.
