Rare TWA promotional cowboy hat with an LBJ stick pin on one side Intended (but never used) for supporters of LBJ in the 1968 presidential Excellent condition and indeed a rare find From a family estate and has been packed away since at least 1980 Happy Bidding on this rare and unique find for both TWA collectors, LBJ collectors and presidential buffs. This hat never saw a head due to the fact that LBJ said on March 31, 1968: (source Wikipedia): Lyndon Johnson: I shall not seek and I will not accept the nomination of my party for another term as your president. (unintelligible) everyw knows how I feel. That a strong, and confident, and a vigilant American stands ready tonight to seek an honorable peace, and stands ready to defend an honored cause, whatever the price, whatever the burden, whatever the sacrifice that duty may require. More trivia: Although Johnson withdrew from the race in March, some say he controlled the convention in order to allow himself the opportunity to run again. Ultimately, althought his control of the convention enabled him to pass his platform, he was not drafted because neither the old party bosses nor the new forces emerging within the Democratic Party wanted Johnson as their nominee.
