UNIQUE FOOTED PITCHER SIGNED LIBBEY AMERICAN BRILLIANT PERIOD CUT GLASS NR Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album GLASS CUTTER: The Libbey Glass Company of Toledo, Ohio SIGNATURE: It is signed as shown on the top of the handle thumb rest. PATTERN NAME: I carefully searched all of my Libbey materials and could not find a positive pattern match. Perhaps this cutting is a variation of one of their patterns or it possibly could be a pattern that is exclusive to this particular blank and was not done on other pieces. AGE: The signature present was used from 1896 to as late as 1906. My guess is that this piece was made in the very early 1900's. BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULTS: Confirms American Brilliant Period (approximately 1876-1916) MEASUREMENTS: It measures 9-1/8" high to the top of the handle and 8" wide from the handle to lip. WEIGHT / RING: It weighs a hefty 4.3 pounds and has a good ring if suspended and tapped. BLANK / GLASS CLARITY: The blown blank is unusual because it includes a hollow foot or pedestal as some people may call it. The glass is bright and clear. CUTTING DETAILS: The main miters are very deep and wide and the overall precision is excellent. For added quality the handle is triple notched and the bottom is cut with a 16-point hobstar. The foot is unusually cut to give it 9 sides. POLISHING QUALITY: The finish looks and feels very crisp. CONDITION REPORT (ALWAYS VERY PICKY): The top scallops and lip are in great shape. The handle has just a couple of typical pencil point or less sized nicks on its notches. The handle is well attached with no heat checks or cracks. The side pattern area looks near perfect with just a few pencil point or less sized nicks. The bottom looks great with just one pencil point sized nick and some typical wear scratches for a piece like this. The interior is generally clean, but to be super picky I'll mention a hard to see very thin and faint white ring on just the bottom outer edge. It is extremely hard to see and I'm just mentioning it to be totally accurate. FINAL COMMENTS: This pitcher combines high quality cutting with a unique shape. It is definitely not the type of piece that you run into regularly. It will display well and could certainly be used occasionally if desired. BIDDING FORMAT: There is no reserve with a $9 starting price. This is my favorite way to sell even high-priced items. I will never under any conditions end my auctions early to sell to an anxious buyer requesting a buy it now. SHIPPING & INSURANCE: A flat rate for shipping with insurance included by USPS Standard Post (formerly called Parcel Post) to anywhere in the U.S.A. will be $12. This method may take longer, but should save money for both of us. I don't ship my cut glass outside of the U.S.A. Please don't ask me to make an exception just for you. I will gladly combine multiple purchases at a reduced rate based on the buyer's location. I am a member of the American Cut Glass Association. I subscribe to the ACGA Code of Ethics. I regularly buy quality cut glass and I hope to have plenty more to offer in my future Ebay listings. I'm very much into cut glass, but I'm not your typical cut glass collector and dealer. I prefer to enjoy this glass for short periods of time and everything that I buy will eventually be sold. Because of this strategy I'm able to sell even the most desirable and rare pieces that I can find and not keep them for myself. Many serious cut glass collectors have benefited because of this and I also hope to keep the casual or beginner buyers happy with some desirable cut glass also.
