The top bar of this medal is nicely engraved "SINIM LODGE CHINA MASONIC DISTRICT". The reverse of the top bar is engraved "H A Vanderberg", [who was probably the Master of the Lodge during WWI]. The second bar is engraved "1918-1919" & The medal has the usual compass & square design within a wreath. I have been informed that the medal is either 10K or 14K gold as gold was inexpensive in the Orient and rarely marked with the gold content. The medal weighs 30 grams. This is a historically interesting medal. Freemasonry was developed in China since the 18th Century by many countries and lodges formed and dissolved, primarily because of China's governmental hostility. In 1864, America was very prominent in China trade. The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts chartered the first Chinese Lodge in 1864.The Sinim Lodge was a Shanghai Lodge chartered in 1905, again by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. In 1952 it was transfered to Tokyo, Japan
