This wonderful item comes from the estate of a dear friend who passed away last winter. She started collecting antiques in antique shops in the 1920's, and continued almost up into last year. Over the next 3 months, I will be occasionally listing some of these wonderful things gatd over a long and interesting and adventurous lifetime. I know that she collected throughout New England, Virginia and the Southern states, in New Orleans antique shops, and throughout the West. (I was with her on some of those Western antique shop trips). As you see by my EBAY name, my specialty is old labels and marine antiques, so please excuse me if I am unable to properly describe some of the fine china and silver items she collected.This covered jar is about 7" high and approximately 5" across at its widest area. I called it Japanese, as the young women on the jar appear to be dressed in old style kimonos. I noticed a very faint repaired crack on the jar lid. I also left on the jar, old residue of scotch tape or something that was used to keep the lid on the jar while in a moving box (My friend was an Admiral's wife, and moved every 3 years to a new assignment like I did). I think the tape residue will clean up just fine. I could not make out the words glazed in to the bottom of the jar, they are barely visible. I suspect this is an old export jar read more
