Vintage Upsala Ekeby Sweden Scandinavian Art Pottery Tile Vintage 1950s Upsala Ekeby Sweden Scandinavian Art Pottery Tile. Measures 7 and 1/2 inches tall by 5 and 7/8 inches wide. Incised "UE Sweden 9090 D D.C." on the back. Designed by Dorothy Clough and initialed by her on the front of the tile. Dorothy Clough worked for Upsala-Ekeby between the years of 1954-57, and her speciality t was her imaginative and vivid African sculptures. I addition to these she also made women figures in terracotta and glazed chamotte, as well as vases and bowls in a blue-black glaze. It's been said that her figurines show a clear similarity to Staffordshire's often naive form of expression. This tile is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks, flakes or crazing. T is tiny rough spot on the back corner of the tile, as shown in the last picture, that appears to be a production flaw w the glaze did not cover.
