Vanderbilt University 1914 Yearbook The Commodore Vanderbilt University 1914 yearbook The Commodore, leather bound and complete. Published by the fraternities of Vanderbilt University and printed by the Benson Printing Company of Nashville, the book has approximately 200 pages. (Pages are not numbered.) Heavy quality paper which has remained remarkably stable over 95 years. Photos still remain clear. Embossed leather cover shows wear on the spine and pretty severe wear on the edges, which overlapped the pages and were subject to folding and wear when placed on a shelf. Pages are not marked and none are torn. Some page corners show slight creasing from use. Interior of the cover appears to be marbled paper which has faded. The book shows all classes for the year 1914 (freshmen through senior), graduates of all of the professional schools, members of all sports teams, clubs, societies, fraternities and sororities. The book has many charming line drawings evocative of the era, and also contains sponsoring ads from local businesses in the last few pages. Of particular interest are the appearance of a few women in the photos, complete with hats, and also color tinted photos in the title pages for the sports teams.
