This is a very nice Les Garcia loose jaw spade. The mouth bar is 5 inches with a 3 1/4 inch tall spade. The braces and cricket are complete. The Nevada style cheeks are 8 inches long and the slobber bar is nicely engraved. All silver is tight and complete. T are no breaks or repairs. GARCIA maker mark on both cheek pieces. This is a great bit to add to your collection. This bit would also make an excellent show bit with the right headstall. Please ask any questions prior to bidding and thanks for looking. A little about the makers mark and dating this bit. This bit should date between 1933-1938 (and remember nobody knows for sure and different "experts" have different opinions). One popular opinion on the makers mark goes like this; In 1932 G.S. Garcia became very ill and turned over the Elko Nevada shop to Les, Eddie and Henry. Les was the silversmith, Henry did leather work and Eddie kept the books. In 1933 G.S. passed on. The three brothers worked the Elko shop together until 1935 when Henery moved to Salinas California to open up Garcia Saddlery Co. In 1938 Les closed the Elko shop and moved to Salinas and from that time on the leather and silver work was marked "Garcia Saddlery Co. Salinas, Ca."
