Striking old opaque clay pottery sombrero from Mexico. This dates back to somewhere in the 1940s, possibly 1930s eras.Classic sombrero design with a few additions. This was intended for use either as a tip tray in a cantina or an ashtray; it has been used for neither. The colors are very rich and vibrant; much more vivid than is normally found in these old opaque pieces.Since they are neither glazed nor burnished, the paint tends to wear off or fade easily; not so with this one.Nice size: measures approximately 6" in diameter and 2.5" in height; the clay is fairly thick and sturdy. It has only very minor wear, mostly just on the edge of the brim; absolutely no chips, cracks, or other damage. There is a very slight possibility it might ship at the 1 lb. rate; if so I will make a refund via PayPal for the overage when I ship.Wonderful piece that's very evocative of Old Mexico; perfect complement for a collection of vintage Mexicana or southwestern decor.
